The day in short

Volcano, lake and
a long soak at the end.

A whole day in Hakone rather than half of one: the cruise, the ropeway over the steam vents, an art museum, and a proper hot spring to finish.

  • Private transportation with a professional English-speaking guide
  • Door-to-door pickup and drop-off within Tokyo’s 23 wards
  • Lake Ashi cruise and the Hakone Ropeway above Ōwakudani
  • The Open-Air Museum or the Venetian Glass Museum, your choice
  • A hot-spring finish at YUNESSUN or Mori no Yu
  • Fuel, highway tolls and parking already included

Where the day takes you

The itinerary.
Yours to adjust.

Your guide coordinates the route, timing and photo stops around your interests, the weather and seasonal conditions. Nothing here is fixed.

  1. 01

    Lake Ashi sightseeing cruise

Across the caldera lake with the mountains all around, and Mt. Fuji behind them on a clear day.

  2. 02

    Hakone Ropeway

A cable car ride over the volcanic landscape, with the valley opening up beneath you on the way to Ōwakudani.

  3. 03

    Ōwakudani Valley

Active steam vents, sulphur in the air and the famous black eggs, boiled in the hot springs and said to add years to your life.

  4. 04

    Hakone Open-Air Museum

Sculpture set against mountain scenery, with the Picasso Pavilion holding one of the largest collections of his work in Japan.

  5. 05

    Hakone Venetian Glass Museum

Elegant glasswork, decorative galleries and landscaped gardens. The alternative to the Open-Air Museum.

  6. 06

    Hakone Kowakien YUNESSUN

A hot-spring complex where swimsuits are worn, so families and mixed groups can bathe together.

  7. 07

    Mori no Yu

Traditional Japanese bathing, indoor and outdoor, without swimsuits. The authentic counterpart to YUNESSUN.

  8. 08

    Lunch stop

A local restaurant chosen around what you feel like eating, rather than wherever the coach parks.

Good to know

Before you book.

Everything that affects your day, in plain language. If anything here is unclear, message us before booking and we will answer properly.

How long is the day, and what time is pickup?+

The tour runs approximately 11 hours door-to-door. Pickup is normally between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM from hotels, apartments or stations within Tokyo’s 23 wards. Your exact pickup time is confirmed after booking, and the start time can be adjusted on request.

I have tattoos. Can I still use the hot springs?+

Yes, with planning, and this is worth reading before you book. At YUNESSUN, tattoos must be completely covered. At Mori no Yu, tattoos are not permitted in the public bathing areas at all. If you have tattoos that cannot be covered, the answer is a reserved private bath, which is subject to availability and carries an additional charge. Tell us in advance and we will arrange it rather than let you find out at the door.

YUNESSUN or Mori no Yu, which should we choose?+

YUNESSUN is a swimsuit-required complex, so families and mixed groups bathe together; bring a swimsuit or rent one there. Mori no Yu is traditional Japanese bathing, indoor and outdoor, without swimsuits and separated by gender. Choose YUNESSUN if you are travelling with children or would rather not bathe unclothed; choose Mori no Yu for the real thing. Private baths can be reserved in advance either way.

How is this different from the Mt. Fuji & Hakone tour?+

Both are 11 hours at the same price. That tour spends its morning at Mt. Fuji and gives Hakone the afternoon. This one is Hakone from start to finish, which is what makes room for a museum and a genuine hot-spring soak rather than a quick look at the lake. Choose this if you want to slow down; choose the other if seeing Fuji matters more.

Will we do all eight stops in one day?+

No. Eight is the menu, not the schedule. The two museums are alternatives to each other, as are the two hot springs, so a realistic day is the cruise, the ropeway, Ōwakudani, one museum, lunch and one onsen. Tell your guide what you want and the rest falls into place.

Are children welcome, and are child seats available?+

Yes, and YUNESSUN in particular is built for families. Child seats are available on request. Please tell us in advance, with each child’s age, so the correct seat is arranged.

What should I bring?+

A swimsuit if you are going to YUNESSUN. Rental is available but bringing your own is easier. Comfortable walking shoes, seasonal clothing for mountain weather, which is cooler than Tokyo, and cash or an IC card for admissions, meals and small purchases. Umbrellas are provided on rainy days, subject to availability.

Where can you pick me up, and are there rules in the vehicle?+

One pickup and one drop-off within Tokyo’s 23 wards are included: hotels, apartments or stations. Pickup from other locations can usually be arranged for an additional fee, subject to availability. Airport and cruise terminal transfers are a separate service, bookable from our Transfers page. For everyone’s comfort and safety, smoking, fireworks and hazardous items are not permitted inside the vehicle. Please also share any mobility or accessibility requirements in advance.

What is the cancellation policy?+

Cancellations 72 hours or more before the start time receive a 95% refund. Cancellations 24–72 hours before receive an 80% refund. Cancellations under 24 hours are non-refundable. These percentages are final and already account for transaction and refund-processing costs. Booking changes are subject to availability.
